MLS Cup Final Snapchat Story December 2015

On Sunday, December 6, 2015 Snapchat featured a story that followed one of the most highly anticipated MLS games of the year, the Columbus Crew SC vs. the Portland Timbers at MAPFRE Stadium – the first soccer-specific pro venue built in the U.S. – in Columbus, Ohio.

Soccer fans unite! And that they did this last Sunday when the two teams and their thousands of supporters came together to see who would snatch up the MLS Cup title. The Snapchat story was titled, “MLS Cup Final” and started out with a 10-second video of the more than enthusiastic Columbus fans on their own home turf screaming, shouting and chanting. This video was accompanied by a Columbus Crew vs. Portland Timbers geofilter along with the opening statement, “Kick it in Columbus. Crew SC host the Timbers in the MLS Cup Final.”

The story then continued to show Snapchats of the arrivals of certain fan legends such as the dedicated ‘Timber Jim’ known for his unrivaled dedication to the Portland Timbers leading the crowds with their usual chants. Other pregame videos gave MLS Cup Final viewers some fun info and facts like, “Forward Kei Kamara leads MLS with 25 goals, including the playoffs” along with “Portland and Columbus each finished the regular season with 53 points.”

Then, it was game time. The Portland Timbers definitely started out with a bang as they went on to score the fastest goal in the event’s 20-year history! The story continued to follow the pure thrill and excitement of every move during the game, making it nothing short of nail biting to watch, even if it was just through Snapchat.

The Portland Timbers ended up winning the entire thing with a final score of 1-2, making it their first-ever MLS Cup title.
