According to a recent Reuters article, current CEO Marissa Mayer will step down once the deal with Verizon is closed. Verizon is purchasing Yahoo’s core Internet business for nearly $5 billion.
That is a lot more than hackers are selling stolen Yahoo email addresses for.
According to the article, Yahoo Inc will rename itself Altaba Inc.
As for the Altaba name, some people think this is a combination of the words “alternative and Alibaba”. Apparently the new Altaba stock, which will be publicly traded, will now be tracked as an alternative to Alibaba
The domain name, yahoo.com, and the logo, will likely remain the same. However, if yahoo.com became Altaba.com, maybe the logo would look like this:
