Google’s Multi Featured Snippets with FIVE Results

Today, on November 21, 2019, I was checking out some search results for someone and happened to discover a new type of Featured Snippet which has me very excited. For lack of a better term I will be referring to it here as a Multi-Featured Snippet.

Check it out!

If I recall correctly, these were spotted briefly in the wild in 2018. This is the first time I have seen one. I was also able to duplicate this for several other related terms.

Update November 22, 2019: This morning I went to check on my new snippet and discovered it had changed. Google has updated this snippet to look more like the mobile experience. The suggested snippets are now buttons with rounded edges:

What is a Google Multi Featured Snippet?

A Multi-Featured Snippet is a Featured Snippet which displays snippets related to the initial search query. This type of Featured Snippet box contains a a Featured Snippet with four additional snippets, all in the same box. All five results may come from different websites.

According to Google, “Featured snippets commonly contain one listing, but more than one may appear.”

In several of my searches which surfaced multi-featured snippets, ALL FIVE of the snippets came from different sites.

Additionally, the four related snippets under the primary snippet do not need to rank on page 1. It appears that Google is pulling this information from all over the web.

Here’s a screenshot of all 5 snippets (with all 4 extra snippets expanded):

Comprehensive Content Creation Clues!

In the screenshot above, my search was for “Florida Car Seat Laws”.

As you can see by the PAA (People Also Ask) box, people are also asking Google questions about forward facing car seats and height/weight requirements for booster seats, however, we now have new information! Not only are people searching for Florida’s car seat laws, they’re also searching for:

  • Florida car seat laws in Taxis
  • Florida car seat laws for front seats
  • Florida car seat laws in buses
  • Florida car seat laws in trucks

Intent!

Having analyzed the traffic for a car seat law website in the past, I can assure you that these are indeed things people are searching for.

Google has totally nailed the intent of people’s search queries here. That’s because when someone is looking up the car seat laws, they may be wondering what the laws are for certain types of vehicles. Sure, most car seats reside in the back of the family minivan or SUV, but, the next most commonly searched phrases are going to be people wondering if it is safe/legal to use a car seat in a pickup truck and what you do in a Taxi or an Uber. Afterall, many people asking this question about Florida’s car seat laws are indeed traveling to the state to vacation or visit Disney World. So what happens after they get off of the airplane at Orlando International and they need a ride to the hotel?

Recap and Questions Without Answers:

What do you call this search position? Position 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 & 0.4?

How will this Featured Snippet traffic look in Google Analytics?

Can someone obtain all 5 of the Featured Snippet positions? (I may already be running this experiment!)

Can content from page 2 or 3 of search display as a Featured Snippet? The position zero snippet must still be from the first 11 search results, however, I am seeing positions 0.1 – 0.4 from pages 2 and 3 of Google Search results. It appears they can pull the information from anywhere!
